Hollywood glamour will meet biker chic this Mardi Gras season at the first Hot Ink Tattoo Party.

Organised by the great tattooed man himself, Geoff Ostling, Hot Ink promises to be a queer-friendly and generally inviting event open to tattoo aficionados and fresh meat alike.

“The prizes are not just for the tattoo, but the person who wears it as well,” Ostling said, referring to the $3000 worth of prizes up for grabs in a number of categories, including sexiest tattoo, most erotic tattoo, best tattoo for picking up trade, best Bear tattoo and most colourful tattooed female.

There will even be prizes for the ‘best’ tattoo you wish you’d never got, and the tattoo you’d never show your mother.
It’s all in the name of fun and sharing a love of ink.

“It’s a time of friendship and getting together with other gay people,” Ostling said. “So many times at the official tattoo shows you feel scared to let anyone know you’re gay, because it can be a homophobic atmosphere.

“Hot Ink is for boys and girls, for the queer community and their straight friends, for people who have tattoos or for anyone who’s just considering, and would like to get an idea or two.”

The event will also provide the perfect opportunity for newbies to the art of needles — nearby tattoo parlour Platinum Ink will stay open till late to accommodate requests and allow prize-winners to redeem their vouchers immediately.
