Product review: Headgear

Designed as a midway point between the top-shelf, expensive male haircare products found in ritzy salons and the more affordable (and often dodgier) products most men buy in supermarkets, new male haircare range Headgear offers a range of shampoos and styling products in nifty, chunky tubs. I started with the Chill Out Mint infused Shampoo and Conditioner – as the name would suggest, it’s minty, but not overpoweringly so. My hair felt clean and fresh afterwards (it’s a natural ingredient-based shampoo, free of Sodium Lauryl Sulphate), and although it wasn’t strong enough for me to detect it, I was assured a day later that I still had a hint of mint scent in my hair.
But for many gay men, it’ll be all about the new styling products on offer – it may be a stereotype, but we do love our product. The Headgear range includes four styling options – Memory Glue, Matte Shaper, Molding Mud and the rather brutally named Cruel Clay. Between the four of them, there should be something to suit any male head of hair – after a bit of trial and error, I settled on the Matte Shaper, which has maximum hold without any of the offputting overly shiny or clumpy looks that cheaper products can leave you with. It even contains mineral oil, which gently conditions your hair. info: http://www.head-gear.com.au/
