Anise

697 Brunswick St, New Farm

Ph: (07) 3358 1558

www.anise.com.au

WHILE being one of the great hidden gems in Brisbane’s food scene, Anise is not your typical French restaurant. With a distinctly Australian feel and terrine dishes often considered the best in Brisbane, the intimate layout of Anise ensures foodies will be sharing not only an incredible meal, but also laughs.

At first, the 17 stool set up around an L-shaped bar can seem a little unnerving, with your neighbour often being total strangers. The affable staff, though, are quick to put anyone at ease and the bar set up along with the cozy surroundings will have you immersed in a welcomed social experience with those around you.

Classic French dishes are a mainstay, such as duck à l’orange, onion tarts and a cheese selection to make any Francophile happy. Anise also changes its wide variety of cuisine according to the seasons.

To live up to the expectations of a truly spectacular offering of French dishes, the wine selection has to be just as impressive and extensive, and Anise does not disappoint there.

The restaurant’s extensive list of wines by the glass are a real standout, along with those who wish to make dangerous friends with whole bottles. And the staff certainly know their stuff.

From the outside along one of Brisbane’s best culinary streets, Anise appears so unassuming and almost blink-and-you’ll-miss-it-able — experiencing the quality of cuisine being served up inside almost feels like its your own little secret.

FIREWORKS Gallery is renowned locally for exhibiting and promoting artworks by some of the country’s best contemporary artists.

Nestled in the cultural hub in Newstead, works are sourced locally and nationally and include unique collections, both private and corporate.

With contemporary works from well-known to emerging artists, FireWorks has been a mainstay on the Brisbane art scene since the early 90s. An emphasis placed on displaying Indigenous artwork along with non-Indigenous artists under the one roof has been an ongoing desire of the gallery’s director to represent “cultural collision”, a constantly popular theme.
