A Space to Belong: Pride Our Way at Open Doors

Pride does not have to mean huge crowds, booming stages or a long day in the sun. Pride Our Way offers a gentler alternative, a free, low key afternoon of food, craft, markets and community at Open Doors Youth Service in Fortitude Valley. For people who cannot attend Brisbane Pride Fair Day or simply want an alternative accessible celebration at a different pace, this is an invitation to belong and celebrate pride in your own way. .
Hosted at Open Doors’ Green Square Close home, the event centres connection as the focus for those attending. Visitors can browse stalls, make something, share food and spend time with community in an affirming environmeant. There is no pressure to perform pride in one particular way and no requirement to face the crowds at Fair Day, which for some, can be overwhelming.
This approach reflects the organisation behind the event. Open Doors Youth Service is Queensland’s only dedicated LGBTQIASB+ youth service, supporting young people through safe spaces, programs and practical care. In 2026 the organisation marked 25 years of work with queer young people across the state.
What began as a small volunteer-led initiative has grown into a vital community hub serving hundreds of young people each year, while also expanding south with a new Logan support hub opening recently.
Open Doors’ work has been recognised across Brisbane’s queer community. The service was named both Community Social Group and Community Support Group at the 2025 Queens Ball Awards and Service Provider of the Year at Brisbane’s 2025 Trans Community Awards. Those honours speak to why a small event like Pride Our Way matters: safety, accessibility and care.
Whether Fair Day is simply not your scene or you prefer a quieter day of connection, there is room for your version of pride here. Come for a craft or a market browse, stay for a snack and a chat, and celebrate in the way that feels right for you.
