AIDS conference theme announced

The theme of the 19th International AIDS Conference has been selected.

The conference – Turning The Tide Together – will be held in Washington D.C. from July 22 – 27, 2012 and will focus on biomedical advances in HIV treatments and the hopes of an eventual cure.

The theme hopes to capture the optimism that key medical advances have the ability to change the path of the epidemic.

“A broad number of issues will be required to actually change the course of the epidemic, including continued investments and collaboration in research, more operations research and more efficient delivery systems, significant programme scale-up in resource-limited settings, commitment to evidence-based interventions, and promotion of human rights,” conference organisers said.

“Turning The Tide Together evokes both the scale of the task in hand and the power of AIDS 2012 to mobilize governments, NGOs, policy makers, scientists, civil society organizations, journalists and people living with HIV to join forces and build the necessary momentum to turn the tide of the AIDS epidemic.”

The International AIDS Conference – convened by the International AIDS Society – is the largest gathering of professionals working in the field of HIV.

It plays a fundamental role in shaping the global response to HIV and keeping HIV on the international political agenda. A number of delegates from Australia attend each year.

Conference registration and abstract submissions open in December 2011.

  1. You also need to remember that you’re trying to create an industy & therefore fail to remember those who trialled drugs which ultimately killed them & are left forgotten. Dead men tell no stories!
