Brother hits back at ‘homophobic’ ad

The half-brother of Queensland federal MP Bob Katter, Carl Katter, is set to star in his own political advertisement to encourage Queensland voters to turn their backs on the Australian Party.

The move is in response to a controversial anti-gay marriage television advertisement recently released by the Australian Party, which Bob Katter leads.

In a new advertisement, commissioned by grassroots lobby group GetUp!, Carl Katter appears accusing his brother of appealing to homophobia in order to win votes.

“When I saw my half brother’s homophobic campaign ad my thoughts went straight to the young Australians who will see this on TV, telling them that they don’t belong, that they are somehow inferior,” Katter says in the rival advertisement.

“It’s not okay for politicians to get away with hatred and bigotry.

“We shouldn’t have to put up with politicians who seek election by appealing to the worst in human nature. We should be electing politicians who support diversity.”

GetUp! is currently calling for donations to keep the advertisement on air.
