Tennis legend Martina Navratilova engaged to model girlfriend
TENNISĀ icon Martina Navratilova grabbed headlines last week when she proposed to her partner Julia Lemigova duringĀ the US Open in New York.
Navratilova, who came out as gay in 1981 and is regarded as one of the best female tennis players ever, has been dating Lemigova since 2006.
Describing the event to the media, the 57 year old Wimbledon champion said: “I have been waiting for the right time to ask Julia to marry me.”
She added: “I thought this was the right place and the right time to pop the question and thankfully I got a yes.”
Navratilova later thanked her followers on Twitter:
