First trailer for ‘The Danish Girl’ released, featuring Eddie Redmayne as trans woman Lili Elbe

THE first official trailer for The Danish Girl that was released today is already creating buzz of another Academy Award for Eddie Redmayne.

The film depicts the life and journey of early 20th century trans* pioneer Lili Elbe, played by Redmayne himself.

Elbe is one of the first people in the world to have undergone gender reassignment surgery.

Redmayne — the most recent Best Actor Oscar winner thanks to his role as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything — wears a curly red wig and make-up, dons a dress and shares a kiss with a man in The Danish Girl trailer.

The English actor recently said he spent three years learning from trans* community members to prepare for the role.

“I felt like, I’m being given this extraordinary experience of being able to play this woman,” he told Out magazine.

“But with that comes responsibility of not only educating myself but hopefully using that to educate.”

The Danish Girl is not only a true story, but it’s also based on the award-winning novel of the same name by David Ebersoff.
