Melbourne-based, Kiwi-born singer-songwriter Brad Schmidt (aka Bigbradwolf) is a recognisable face – and voice – to many in that city’s queer scene, thanks to his prolific gigging. Now comes his debut album, complete with some of the coolest cover art you’ll see all year (thanks to the talented boys at Bad Behaviour Publishing). While The Maverick Storm is a largely acoustic affair, there are many subtle electronic production flourishes that, at times, bring to mind Madonna’s quieter Ray Of Light-era work with the likes of William Orbit and Patrick Leonard – impressive for an independently released, largely self-produced effort. www.myspace.com/bigbradwolfmusic
