“Bisexual” omitted from Google search autocomplete due to pornography
BISEXUAL advocates in the US have set up a petition calling on Google to unblock the word “bisexual” from its autocomplete predictive search function.
The search engine omits searches beginning with the term “bisexual” from appearing as suggestions despite terms like “gay”, “lesbian” and “transgender” resulting in a range of predictive search terms.
In response to the petition, Google has stated that while the autocomplete search terms are automatically generated, terms correlating highly with pornographic searches are omitted.
Founder of the petition Sarah Prager has argued Google should acknowledge omitting search terms beginning with “bisexual” contributes to the invisibility of the bisexual community.
