Gay emojis may be banned in Russia

THE ruling Russian government is reportedly investigating if “gay emojis” on all social media platforms violate the country’s so-called “gay propaganda” laws.

If found they do, according to reports from Russian newspaper Izvestia, President Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party will propose to ban them.

The “gay emojis” in question include same-sex emoji couples holding hands or kissing.

If successfully banned, it would be because they violated the “protection of children from information harmful to their health and development”, according to the law.
