Marriage forums attract major parties

MPs from all three major parties have signed up to speak about the future of marriage equality at forums in Sydney and Melbourne. The forums are designed to allow community members to voice their views on the direction of the Australian marriage equality movement in the wake of votes against reform in the federal and Tasmanian parliaments, and victories at the US election.

A Melbourne forum, held Thursday, was set to feature Victorian Shadow Attorney-General Martin Pakula (ALP), Clem Newton-Brown (Liberal), and Sue Pennicuik (Greens).

MPs set to attend the upcoming Sydney forum on November 25 include the ALP’s Penny Sharpe, the Greens’ Cate Faehrmann and a yet to be named Coalition representative.

Community campaigners Rodney Croome, Alex Greenwich and Brin Hutchinson will also attend. “The marriage equality wins during the US election have focused many people’s attention on the future of marriage equality in Australia so I urge everyone with an interest in the future of this reform to attend,” Croome said,

The Sydney forum will be held upstairs at the Beresford Hotel from 3.30pm on Sunday, November 25.
