Conigrave revival continues

Fans of the stage adaptation of Timothy Conigrave’s Holding The Man should consider flying to Melbourne next year for the Midsumma Festival.
Two more of the author’s works -“ Thieving Boy and Like Stars in My Hands -“ will be performed at Carlton’s La Mama Theatre as part of the city’s revamped gay and lesbian festival.
The production has been edited by Tony Ayres, with music by iOTA, Blur, Moby and Radiohead, and stars David Forster, Gary Abrahams and Lachlan MacLeod.
Conigrave’s plays deal with those matters that need to be resolved at the time of death: your own or someone else’s.
As his father lies dying in bed, Moxy must assess not only where his troubled youth has taken him in the past, but in what direction life will lead him.
On the other hand, Simon, facing his own death, takes charge of not only his own life, but that of his lover Marcello.
Both plays are refreshing and uplifting as they are moving, funny, sad and celebratory stories of the power of love, sex and friendship.
Thieving Boy and Like Stars In My Hands will play at La Mama Theatre, 349 Drummond St, Carlton, 19 January-2 February. Bookings: (03) 9347 6142. Details: [email protected] or www.lamama.com.au.
