Currently recovering from city life in a commune outside of Nimbin in northern NSW before she starts her national tour, Diana Anaid knows a lot about success.

Her most recent single, Last Thing, reached the top spot on the AOL radio pop charts, and her new album Live In The Bush Theatre will be released next month.

The CD is totally acoustic and very intimate. We didn’t spend hours fixing it up, Anaid told Sydney Star Observer.

A lot has been left on the album. You can hear touching moments and little kids talking. It’s got a real live ambience.

Once a homeless teenager herself, she requested that some proceeds of the new album go to a homeless childrens’ organisation in Sydney.

I used to lived off charity. I want people who are going through a similar situation to know that there is help out there and to give these kids a better quality of life.

Big Gay Day is on 11 March in Brisbane and will be the first leg of Anaid’s tour. The event’s line-up includes Sneaky Sound System and Paulini.

I love gay venues. It’s going to be a huge show with thousands of people. I’m really excited and can’t wait to see my fans, she said.

Just like Pink, she has a huge lesbian following. Anaid says that her femme rock tunes are the anthems for real girl power.

I have an enormous gay fan base. Women feel empowered by my music because of my lyrics and there are also lots of guys who are embracing this strength even if I’m bagging out guys. They see the real meaning.

She admits she is a fag hag at heart, with plenty of gay best friends. But this weekend will be spent moving into a new house, and trying out solar energy.

I really wanted to come down. I promise to have a few wines and dance around the house for everyone.

Live In The Bush Theatre will be released on 17 March. For more information visit her website www.dianaanaid.com.
