Gaydar founder dies

The co-founder of worldwide gay dating website Gaydar died last week after falling eight floors from his London apartment.

Gary Frisch, 38, died in the unexplained accident, which police are still investigating, The Independent reported.

South African-born Frisch founded Gaydar in 1999 after a gay friend who was too busy with work commitments to find a partner asked for Frisch’s help.

The online venture, set up with his former partner Henry Badenhorst, has since attracted millions of users around the world. Its support of the gay community includes a $1.5-million sponsorship deal with New Mardi Gras signed in 2005.

A statement from Gaydar’s parent company QSoft consulting paid tribute to Frisch’s commitment to the gay and lesbian community.

Gary was a highly regarded leader and colleague who cared first and foremost about the gay and lesbian community that we serve, the statement said.

Gay activists said Frisch and Gaydar had made a huge impact on gay culture.
