Get cooking for Twenty10

Twenty10 is asking you to don an apron and get cooking to help raise money for the GLBT youth service as part of the Dinner At My Place campaign.

Now in its second year, Dinner At My Place gives you the chance to live out your MasterChef fantasies by inviting guests to your place for a paid meal — money from which is then donated to the service.

Twenty10 managing director Rebecca Reynolds said last year’s inaugural appeal raised more than $10,000.

“The hosts last year told us they loved the chance to cook for people who meant so much to them,” Reynolds said.

“The hosts then came up with a number of different ways for their guests to donate to Twenty10 the amount they would usually spend on a night out.”

Dinner At My Place 2010 was launched at the Twenty10 drop-in centre in Newtown last night. At the table were a selection of last year’s dinner hosts, media and some special Twenty10 guests including Penny Sharpe MLC, performer iOTA, artist Luke Stambouliah and World Wildlife Fund’s James Forbes.

“This is a place that holds many memories of joy, sadness and much laughter of the young people we support,” Reynolds said.

“It is a place that would not be able to exist without the donations of community members.

“In cooking a meal for my guests tonight I wanted to share some of the food I cook in my own home.

“Cooking keeps me in touch with those things that keep me hopeful and it reminds me to treasure the good people I have in my life.

“I really hope people take the chance to host a dinner and express their gratitutde for the positive role their friends play in their lives.”
