Headquarters waits amyl probe

Headquarters waits amyl probe

Headquarters sex venue owners will likely face criminal charges for the distribution of amyl nitrate, police indicated this week.

The sex venue on Crown St was raided last Thursday by Surry Hills Licensing Police after a tip-off.
Surry Hills Commander Donna Adney said officers seized alcohol and liquids believed to be amyl nitrate, known as poppers.

Nobody was charged immediately after the search but that’s because it is practice for us to get the substances analysed to make sure they are what we think they are, she said.

If it is amyl, and we believe it is, then there will be subsequent charges.

The manager of Headquarters told Sydney Star Observer the matter was private, and would be dealt with in court.

Adney also had a warning for suppliers of prohibited substances on Oxford St.

Possession and supply of amyl isn’t something you can do unless you’re a doctor. If you’re able to walk into any old shop on Oxford St and you’re able to purchase amyl, you could be committing an illegal act.

We can’t do random inspections. It’s important that people do come to us with this sort of information.

  1. re: Alex has oliver ever been fucked?

well he’s headfucked… does that count??… seriously that dude needs a good long hit of amyl… ride that wave baby WOOHOO!!!!

  2. Re James:

Medical discourse ‘objectify’ people in order to subsume ownership bodies. The whole notion of medical ‘objectification’ is to insert a dualism within bodies, and thus obfuscate possessive relationships between ‘self’ and ‘body’. Its a practice whereby bodies are colonised and made the source of power-struggles.

Any attempts to circumscribe drugs and consumption of drugs, once again, are heavily genealogically rooted within moralistic and theological discourses, rather than an supposedly ‘objective’ and impartial science.

  3. If people want to inhale amyl and suffer the consequences then hey, thats their choice. Alcohol kills off your brains cells too AND has a detrimental effect on their liver, yet everyone seems to be a-ok with people doing that.

What about smoking? People turn around and say that if people want to smoke and cause damage to their lungs, thats their choice, yet you dont see anyone doing anything about passive smoking by youngsters and non smokers. Amyl users are only doing it to themselves and not the people around them.

  4. Good to see this blog has returned to the issue of priority policing, and real harm minimisation.
Agree with comments that the real problem are the dealers who peddle ice and smack, and that its in the too hard basket for police. Worse still, there is plenty of evidence that they are still ‘greenlighting’ suppliers on and around Oxford St. And yes, the amyl raids and sniffer dogs in our nightclubs is firstly about p.r.- ‘visible policing’, which makes them look like they are doing something useful. Give us a break Donna, done add intellectual insult to injury.

  5. . . . . Anyone who takes amyl should have an MRI scan of their brain and a chat to a neurologist about how they cant determine if its too harmful for them. . . And then watch the doctors facial expression of horror.

  6. What a blatant waste of taxpayers money and police resources! What’s next from Surry Hills Police I wonder, covert raids on jaywalkers? Our limited number of police officers can only be so many places at a time as our streets become even more dangerous and homophobic, and may I suggest that Headquarters should not be one of them! And a note to Oliver… please don’t claim to be the voice for gay youth. I’m 23, a law student, involved in my community, and I live near Oxford Street and plan to in the future. I agree with Gary…you should think before claiming to know what “gay youth” dream of and where we want to live.

  7. Hell, if the KX police are looking for real drugs, they should look outside their door in Fitzroy Gardens, or any of the backstreets, or along Darlinghurst Road. It’s not hard to pick the dealers, they’re the ones with no teeth.

  8. Can’t the Police do better detective work – the label on the bottle clearly says ‘Room Odouriser’ – clearly not Amyl.

I tought the stuff being sold these days is only a synthetic substitute and not the real deal – so how will the charge be upheld.

Have used it for years (even with viagra) with no detrimental effects.

Can Donna Adney please get her Keystone Cops to do some real policing and stop targeting soft petty crime.

  9. I don’t think sniffing amyl brings on violent impulses. More a loss of focus. Thugs should use it more often.
Once again, the police are being made to do something for PR – pure window dressing- while violent crime with actual victims remains in the too-hard basket.
Oliver- if you don’t want to be part of the ‘scene’ that is entirely your prerogative. You’re not alone there by any means. But the fact you are so obsessed by it suggests otherwise. Why don’t you stop using criticism as a defense and plunge in? Or put your ‘decent’ feelings to good use and volunteer for one of the various aid programs.

  10. First, I’d have to say that the headline “Headquarters (a)waits amyl probe” was most disappointing (to this indecent mind.)

Second, I wonder that the ‘decent people’ here would keep such ‘indecent’ company as the rest of us.

Third, I want to know where this planet is where party goers don’t use drugs or head to the pub every Friday and Saturday night or pop li’l pills to keep them dancing til sun up, or snort a li’l something to enhance the sex act. Because I’d like to avoid it.

And finally, I think that once we accept that people will do all these things, then the best we can do is provide accurate and explicit information on which drugs (crystal and ghb, eg.) are to be avoided.

    ps. Poppers? Oh per-lease.

  11. Some people argue that taking drugs is a matter of individual choice. Being belted in the head by a thug on substances is not an individual choice. That said, the thug in question will be drinking or perhaps taking crystal meth rather than on amyl nitrate. So I think priorities are definitely in order but I also believe drugs are a health issue and have nothing to do with “decency” or any other holier-than-thou claptrap.

  12. I am suffering from too much of Oliver’s stupidity.
Why doesn’t Oliver take up stamp collecting as a hobby instead of driving us poor buggers all mad.
Perhaps he should shove both feet in his mouth and show us all how he can whistle between his toes.
His first tune could be “does anybody miss me”?

  13. My stimulus package should be $900,000 rather than $900. After all, My lifetime of taxes has been used and abused by irresponsible people who claim drugs is OK. Its us decent people that suffer in this world.

  14. In a 2006 article published in London’s The Independent titled “Drugs: the real deal”, it was revealed that the first ranking based upon scientific evidence of harm to both individuals and society, devised by British-government advisers, showed that “Poppers” pose little potential harm to individuals or to society.

TO DO LIST for Police cafeteria fridge: 1) control violent crime on Oxford St; 2) control Meth distribution; 3) man local primary school crossings; 4) raid sex on premises venues to control distribution of substances that “pose little harm to individuals or society”… and hey, be careful out there.

  15. i have been doing amyl for the past 16 years and a part from a little headspin its ok.
