HIV health care goes online
People living with HIV/AIDS can now register for their own eHealth record.
Access to the national eHealth system is being rolled out across NSW and the ACT at a number of sites, including St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney’s east, as well as across the Blacktown and Nepean region in Western Sydney, the ACT, Southern NSW, and the Hunter region.
Each site connects GPs, private specialists and pharmacies, and some include hospitals, allowing each to share patient information and creating a viable online record. The St. Vincent’s project, called Eastern Sydney Connect, has already connected the hospital and a number of GPs to the national system via clinical software.
As more providers are connected within each site, they can start to access and share critical patient information leading to better health advice and outcomes for people living with HIV/AIDS. A spokesperson for the eHealth record system said patients would have control over their record and could choose which healthcare organisations have access to the information.
“You will have a user ID and password so you can view your record online at any time.
“You can also see an activity history of your eHealth record, which will show you when information has been added or removed.”
