ICLC gets community grant

The Inner City Legal Centre (ICLC) received a grant from the City of Sydney to assist it in its work providing legal advice to the marginalised and disadvantaged.

City of Sydney Council approved more than $1.5 million worth of grants for 148 community organisations as part of its 2010/11 annual grants programs.

ICLC coordinator Daniel Stubbs told Sydney Star Observer the money would go towards providing nuts-and-bolts items to improve the efficiency of the work the centre performs.

“It’s very hard to get money for the boring things you need in running a community legal practice, so we’re very happy the City realised these were the  things that support us in providing legal advice for marginal people and people living with disadvantage,” Stubbs said.

“A lot of the clients who come to us from the gay and lesbian community are also disadvantaged and on low incomes or experiencing various forms of marginalisation. This helps us provide a service to them that’s of a quality they would receive by going to a top firm — which is what they deserve.”

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said:  “We are delighted to be working closely with the community to bring to life projects, events, activities, services and resources that help build strong, healthy and vibrant local communities.”
