Important changes to Love2010

Due to unforseen circumstances, the drag fashion parade and competition planned as part of this weekend’s Shop Local Love2010 festivities will not go ahead.

However, there’s still plenty on over the weekend to occupy shoppers in and around the Ox

ford St area – participating retailers are offering bargains all weekend, and there will be a parade showcasing local designers to be held at Taylor Square on Saturday August 20 from 12-3pm.

  1. otto, its a good point you bring up there. I have to say that Gay bars and pride parades were built on the foundations of a society where homosexuality was illegal and I guess were the only safe drinking places for gay patrons and not to mention the permissive society of the 60s and 70s. These days I feel safe amongst the heterosexual world and its a world away from the drugs and promiscuity culture of the gay scene. And then this moves onto Chris post where there isnt really a need for men to dress up as women in this modern age.

  2. Great that the Drag Queens will not be strutting their stuff…enough now its 2011 not 1950….men dressed up as fake women needs to be consigned to the gay history books.

  3. Do you think that the advances gays have made into main stream society have made some gay only or gay oriented irrelevant?
I know that I at first thought Gay Pride parades were somewhere I could go to feel so not alone or outcast, but I no longer feel the need. My gayness is not really much of an issue as I feel quite safe and accepted in society in general. I am getting older, so perhaps that has a lot to do with it. Do younger gay guys feel differently ?

  4. The fashion parade will still take place showcasing local fashions (but no drag queens will stut their stuff). The Lord Mayor will be there to judge the local fashions. The show must go on come rain or shine!

  5. and therell be half price kebbabs at the kebbab shops. Are the only retailers on Oxford St are they not?
