Lesbians conference up north

Registration is open for the 11th Australian Lesbian Medical Association (ALMA) annual meeting.
To be held in Darwin from August 20- 23, the conference will bring together lesbian doctors, medical students and their partners to discuss the state of women’s health services.

Representatives from ALMA, the Northern Territory AIDS & Hepatitis Council, and the National LGBT Health Alliance will come together on the first evening of proceedings to hold a public forum on lesbian health, before moving onto more localised issues.

The NT AIDS Council will lead a session on Indigenous Sexual Health Programs, including their Sistergirl Transgender Program while another session will feature Indigenous lesbians speaking of their experiences.

Other points for discussion will be the challenges faced by obsteotricians in rural areas, childhood health, and sexual abuse in remote communities.

The weekend will also feature a number of opportunities for socialising, including the annual dinner, screenings of the recently debuted Destiny in Alice – a documentary about Alice Springs’ lesbian community.
