Virgin deals for Mardi Gras

A partnership between New Mardi Gras (NMG) and low-cost airline Virgin Blue is set to make event booking easier and (hopefully) cheaper for interstate partygoers this year.
NMG today announced a collaboration with the airline to entice Mardi Gras visitors to fly to Sydney for the upcoming event with special Mardi Gras travel packages.
NMG marketing and communications head Damien Eames said NMG is “delighted” to have the Virgin Blue packages on offer to attract visitors from across Australia.
“We have an exceptional season planned and these holidays really make the most of the events we’re hosting all over Sydney,” he said.
Five separate flight, accommodation and ticketing deals are now available through the Virgin Blue website.
Mardi Gras has split its main two events this year, with the Oxford St parade on February 27 and the Mardi Gras party weekend on March 6 and 7.
Ranging upwards of $800, two packages have been put together for the parade weekend, and one for the party weekend.
Two weeklong packages, including an ‘Ultimate’ ten-night package covering both events, are on offer, ranging upwards of $2000.
Along with flights and accommodation, packages include tickets to the George Michael concert at Sydney Football Stadium, Mardi Gras event tickets and parade members viewing access.
“Mardi Gras is one of the biggest events on the calendar and we’re pleased to be associated with NMG, working together to package up unique holidays and experiences so travellers can make the most of their time in Sydney,” Virgin Blue general manager of public affairs Heather Jeffrey said.
