Matt makes first cut

Retail manager Matt Johnston-Page and database engineer Lex Van Netten took out the first Sydney heat of the Mr Gay Australia competition at the Flinders Hotel on Sunday night.

The pair were so close in marks the judges were unable to split them, and put them both through to the final round.

The competition is part of a national search for an Australian ambassador to represent the gay community at the Mr Gay International competition in Canada.

Contestants are judged on a range of criteria including casual wear, formal wear, swimwear and general knowledge.

The overall winner will boast a combination of good looks and a strong knowledge of gay history and current affairs.

Heats will be held at the Flinders Hotel over the next three Sundays starting at 7pm, and there is still time to enter.

The winner of Mr Gay Australia will get flights to Whistler, Canada, accommodation and $1000 spending money to enter the Mr Gay International. Other prizes include tanning, and accommodation at the Diamant Boutique hotel in Sydney.

info: Entry forms can be found at www.mrgayaustralia.com.au, the Flinders Hotel and at Aussie Boys on Oxford St.
