With another Mardi Gras marched (wow, what a feeling!) and with Easter approaching it may be an ideal moment to take some time out from your hectic schedule. Here are some activities/services Northern Rivers (NR) will be offering that may assist you to review or change direction.

Firstly for all those steadfast smokers, ACON NR is interested in hearing from people wanting to quit. In partnership with North Coast Area Health Service, a smoking cessation program will be specifically tailored for our communities. So if you want to butt out for good, get your butt to the phone. The Lesbian Health Project at ACON NR is visiting 10 towns in 10 days during April. Some of the towns include: Brunswick Heads, Ballina, Tweed Heads, Nimbin, Casino and Grafton. In addition to referrals and networking, information sessions will be available on the following topics: relationships, ageing, stress and depression, discrimination and parenting. For regional PLWHA an onsite group/forum -˜NORCOWAM’ -“ No Ordinary Rural Community of Women and Men is available. This is a thriving group that shares information and supports each other throughout life’s journey. Email: [email protected]

Twisted, a real life diary DVD will be shown early evening @ ACON NR April 17. This is an opportunity to meet other gay/bisexual men and discuss sex, drug taking and how to minimise risks. This event will be hosted by Tobin Saunders, a fabulous local celebrity. Contact: 6622 1555/1800 633 637.

Another exciting project is ACON’s transport assistance program. If local GLBT people wish to attend medical, social or health promotional activities but are having trouble finding or paying for transport ring ACON NR, you may be eligible for assistance.

Until next month take care of each other and if you are in Lismore drop in to our office, enjoy a cuppa, read a paper, pick up some information or just have a chat with our staff.
