Pink called to Melbourne rally

Pink called to Melbourne rally

In an effort to throw celebrity weight behind the Equal Love same-sex marriage campaign, a Facebook petition is calling for some local support from US pop star Pink for the Melbourne rally.

Sydney Star Observer heard rumours last month that Pink had been approached for the rally, however a spokeswoman from tour promoter Michael Coppel confirmed she had already turned down a request.

A request for Pink to attend the event was put forward to management, however unfortunately she is unable to attend. This was conveyed to Equal Love early this month, spokeswoman Fiona Lakin said.

Undeterred, the Facebook petition aims to garner support from thousands of supporters before re-addressing Pink’s management -“ as the site says, you never know.

Pink, who has a huge lesbian following, was spotted marching in an anti-Prop 8 rally last year in the US, which has buoyed local hopes.

The singer is scheduled to perform at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on the day of the rally.

We all know that Pink is a huge supporter of gay rights. We also know that she will be in Australia in August on her national tour, the site states.

info: Equal Love Melbourne rally is on Saturday August at 1pm @ Federation Square.
