Organisers of last week’s launch of a new LGBTI community mental health and suicide awareness support group in Brisbane were shocked at the outpouring of support from attendees, and plan to hold more events in the coming months.

The first of the weekend’s two events for the Rainbow OK? community group was a party held downstairs at the Sportsman Hotel on Saturday night. Then 80 people made their way to the New Farm Neighbourhood Centre on Sunday for a community picnic.

“It was just really cool to look around at the picnic and see kids playing along with all different members of our community chatting and feeling comfortable in an open environment.” Rainbow OK? committee member Kobi Cooke told the Star Observer.

“It also being able to see all the important support information from mental health support groups and health organisations displayed.”
