Olympian Gus Kenworthy Engaged To Boyfriend Andrew Rigby

Gus Kenworthy has announced his engagement to Australian financial executive Andrew Rigby. The four-time Olympic freestyle skier took to Instagram on August 5 to announce the news, quipping “He said he’d think about it!” in the post’s caption.

Inside Gus Kenworthy’s Proposal

In an exclusive interview with People, the couple shared how Kenworthy proposed to his boyfriend of two years during a vacation off the coast of the Spanish Balearic Island of Mallorca. 

“We took a private dinghy from the pier at the St. Regis,” Kenworthy told People, “where we were having a cocktail by the beach at the Mar Sea Club. I told Andrew I was taking him on a little adventure. Once we got to the island we climbed off the dinghy and hiked up to the top of the cliffs.

“I organized for a picnic blanket to be waiting for us with a pitcher of margaritas — extra sweet because that’s how Andrew orders them. After the proposal, we got back on the dinghy — but instead of going back to the mainland, it took us out to a chartered boat.”

The couple continued their celebration on the boat, where 6 of their closest friends were lying in wait to join in on the festivities. 

Accordingly to Rigby, the proposal came as a complete surprise. The relaxing Spanish minivacation had come off the back of a busy travel schedule, including a visit to Amsterdam WorldPride; Rigby had naturally assumed it was nothing more than an end-of-trip decompression.

The news comes two years into the couple’s dating journey. While Kenworthy and Rigby first met in Sydney over a decade ago, they became better acquainted at a mutual friend’s 40th in Guadalajara, Mexico in 2024, after which the two began dating.

Alongside earning a silver medal in the men’s slopestyle at the 2014 Winter Olympics, Kenworthy is also an actor, having appeared on The Challenge, RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, American Horror Story, and Will & Grace.
