Sleaze to remember twisted history

New Mardi Gras has announced its Sleaze Ball will be starting an hour earlier at 9pm with its shift a single dance hall in the Hordern Pavilion.

500 people were turned away from the original Sleaze Ball in 1982, this year we expect to welcome more than 5000 people through the gates to the Hordern, New Mardi Gras chair David Imrie said.

Over the years Sleaze partygoers have been entertained by a bevy of big name DJs and encouraged to dress to the nines to a huge range of themes, from deep in the jungle to Cell Block H, Atlantis to Homosutra.

The Villains’ Lair is going to go off with thousands of people coming as their favourite arch nemesis or XXX Men, Imrie said.

We’ve seen some pretty spectacular and pretty weird things at Sleaze Ball over the years. But it doesn’t get any more extreme than clubbers spreading the ashes of a previous partygoer on the dance floor so they can forever be in the place they loved so much.

So Sleaze Ball attendees should take care because it’s not just someone’s toes they might be standing on.”

Sleaze Ball’s now regular burlesque shows may bring a touch of darkness and will feature a cavalcade of dark and dirty characters. In the Hordern Pavilion will be Welsh Ministry of Sound legend Alan Thompson, Irish chart toppers The Potbelleez, local heroes Sveta and Mark Murphy and one of Sydney’s favourite exports Deepchild joins the mix.
