Melbourne gay rugby union club the Chargers will raise a brew for good luck next month ahead of their much anticipated trip to Manchester, England to compete in the Bingham Cup.

The Bingham Cup is the world championship of gay rugby union and sees some 30 teams battle it out for the top prize.

It will be the first time a team other than Sydney will represent Australia at the event.

The Sydney Convicts — Australia’s first gay rugby union club — will also compete in the event.

The Melbourne Chargers will meet at the Laird Hotel, Abbotsford on May 20 from 4.30pm for farewell drinks before the trip. There will be drink specials and door prizes.

The Bingham Cup runs June 1 – 3.

Support the Star Observer… while you still can

LGBTQIA+ media is under threat. Queer content is censored by tech conglomerates who amplify bigotry and push out AI slop — so we receive less financial support than ever.

When our community is muzzled and intolerance intensifies, we need queer media more than ever. Your donation means we can continue paying queer journalists to write queer news.

Don’t rely on the straight lies of big tech – support Star Observer instead and donate now.
