Netting a new team

Netting a new team

Are you are a queer woman who plays netball? A new team being established in Melbourne is looking for players to hit the court in a queer women’s netball force.

Organiser Hannah Lewis said she thought it would be a great way to keep fit, have fun and meet new people.

“I’ve played a lot of netball in my life and the co-organiser has played a lot of basketball and netball, so it’s something we’ve both been interested in for a while and this seems like a fun way to start doing it again,” she said.

Lewis said players don’t need to be experts to take part in the new team, they just need to be willing to learn and want to stay fit.

“We really encourage people, whatever their skill level, to get in touch and start playing with us.

“We’re just looking for as many peple who want to have fun and play as possible.”

When established, the new team will play at Flagstaff Gardens as part of the Melbourne Netball Competition.

If there enough interest in having more than one team, Lewis said she’d look at setting up a second team.

“I think there are a lot of women who play netball and statistically 10 percent of them should be gay, so there should definitely be some interest in it,” she said.

There will be an information session at Workshop Bar this Saturday, June 25 for interested participants.
