Team Sydney marks 21 years

Leading LGBTI sporting group Team Sydney has marked its 21st birthday as an incorporated organisation this month. Originally started in 1985 for people wanting to attend the 1986 Gay Games, Team Sydney has grown steadily over the years, and decided to incorporate in 1991.

The organisation now provides services to approximately 30 LGBTI-oriented sports clubs, including the Sydney Convicts, Sydney Rangers and the Flying Bats, with its management team proud that nearly 1,400 men and women play sport each week, upholding fitness and healthy lifestyles within the LGBTI community.

Team Sydney’s international delegate, Geoffrey Radford, said that there would be great challenges in 2013 and 2014 with the Regional and World Outgames and the International Gay Games all on the horizon.

“The numbers of sports men and women from NSW continue to increase at these events. They compete on the world stage with the very best of athletes,” Radford said.

“This AGM will lay the foundations for the huge amount of effort that will arise from getting our competitors to these events.”

Team Sydney will be holding its annual general meeting on November 25 at the Brighton Hotel (1st Floor, 77 Oxford St, Darlinghurst) from 4pm.

Member clubs, through their representatives, individual members and anyone else interested in the development of LGBTI sport are all welcome to participate.
