Uniting in the surf

Rip it up with Gay Surfers at a surf spot near you on July 17, in celebration of the first ever international Gay Surfers Day. The group, which is well into its second year, now has almost 3,000 members from around 80 countries. The Sydney chapter is particularly strong, with group founder Thomas a Sydney native. For the first time ever, Gay Surfers members around the world are getting together to share a day of surf, and dozens of locations have been registered so far, including several in NSW: Byron Bay, Little Diggers Beach, Merewether Beach, Middleton, Bendalong Beach and Manly Beach.
