Women get spring in step

Melbourne women’s sports group the Sporty Dykes are gearing up for a fun-filled spring and summer of activity.

On September 18, the women will try their hand at Australian Rules football at Albert Park and test their skills during finals time. The game will be non-tackle.
On October 9, the sports-lovers will take to the water and try their hand at rowing with local queer rowing club the Argonauts.

With summer approaching, an outdoor event will get the girls’ hearts racing with softball in Edinburgh Gardens on November 20.

Sporty Dykes is a relaxed collective of lesbian and bisexual women who participate in sports of all kinds.

The group, set up thanks to a funding grant from the Asia Pacific Outgames Legacy Fund, emphasises participation rather than competition and usually meets for dinner, lunch or brunch after hitting the sports field.
