A sexual health gift to myself

A sexual health gift to myself

I don’t know about anyone else, but the rest of my weekends heading into the festive season are booked out.

This time of year is definitely the busiest, and often, the most stressful.

We have Christmas functions, gifts to buy, friends to see a

nd plans to make. After you throw both Christmas and New Year’s into the mix, there’s little time for ourselves.

But we should all make time for a sexual health check-up.

I don’t know if it is because people are more giving during the festive season, or because I’ve been good for Santa, but I tend to get more action during the Christmas season.

To make sure you’re not giving a gift that keeps on giving, like syphilis, make sure you get a sexual health check-up.

STI’s can sometimes be asymptomatic, which means we could all have one now and not know we have been passing it along. Furthermore, if you have an STI, you have an increased risk of catching HIV.

Unlike the Target t-shirts we get from distant relatives on Christmas day, STI’s and HIV are non-refundable.
For HIV especially, a sexual health test is really important.

A recent study showed up to 20 percent of men with HIV were not aware of their status. Knowing helps protect yourself and your future partners.

Having a sexual health check is simple and easy. It can involve having a swab taken, providing a urine sample and having some blood drawn. Most places let you take your own swab if you are embarrassed to get your gear out in front of a doctor or nurse.

The end result is pain-free sexual health peace of mind regarding. And with that we can go out, pick up and have a good time — with condoms and lube, of course — knowing we are looking after our own, and our partner’s sexual health.

If your last sexual health check up was more that three months ago, make some time during this busy season and get it done.

No one wants to wake up during the festive season with an itch, burning sensation or discharge. In that case I’d definitely prefer the Target t-shirt.
