Bouncing back with friends

Bouncing back with friends

October is Mental Health Month and this year’s theme is ‘Good friends help us bounce back’.

I believe friends can be individuals or organisations, so I’ll share with you two of ACON Northern Rivers’ friends and tell you about a fun festival supporting them.

ACON has services that can assist people during trying times. Renia has joined our team as coordinator of our new counselling project. Renia offers therapeutic structured counselling to ACON’s communities. She will be available at times convenient to the community. An appointment is necessary.

Maybe you are concerned about your own mental health or you are the support for someone else with mental health issues. The Mental Health Support Group meets on the first Monday of every month and is for people with mental health issues, their carers and supporters. The meetings are held at the Grow Community Centre, 125 Ballina Rd, Lismore, 10am-noon. For more info, call Ann on 0421 302 495.

Lismore Soup Kitchen provides meals seven days a week to people in Lismore. The main meal is a hot meal, served at lunch. Breakfast is provided four mornings a week. The kitchen also provides accommodation assistance for people experiencing homelessness. Call 6622 4055 for more information.

To support these worthwhile organisations, get along to the ‘In Good Company Festival’ on Saturday, November 13 at the Lismore Turf Club where live music and the arts will enhance community spirit.

It’s also about drawing together high-profile leaders and individuals, musicians, artists and everyday people to raise funds for the Mental Health Support Group and the Lismore Soup Kitchen.

ACON will be sharing a stall and we hope to see you there. For tickets, only $15, call Michael Timbrell at the Lismore Turf Club on 6621 3176 or visit www.ingoodcompany2010.org
