Feel like lending a hand?

Happy New Year to all!!  January is always a very exciting time for the GLRL, and this year is certainly no exception.  Why, I hear you ask? Because we’re getting ready for Mardi Gras!  The Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby’s Mardi Gras season is filled with a range of activities, and we invite you to volunteer and join us for some, or all of them.

We’ll be launching our season on 18th February, so look forward to our bucket shaking volunteers hitting a few of your favourite venues on Oxford St – raising much needed funds for the GLRL.

You will also see us running various party cloakrooms (not the big party of course, we’ll all be on the dance floor for that!), so please hand over your cloaks (and maybe more) and say hi to our lovely volunteers.

We’ll be hard to miss at Fair Day, with our iconic Sea of Hearts. The GLRL’s Sea of Hearts has been a feature of Fair Day for several years and we invite you all to write a message and plant a heart on the day.

Fair Day is also an excellent time to get more information on the GLRL; meet our committee members and ask any questions about how the GLRL works for our community; and how you can get involved.

As ever, we will have a fabulous float in the parade.  We cannot unveil the theme as yet, but if you attend our briefing day on 1st February all will be revealed!  The parade is always a lot of fun at the GLRL.

If you’d like to march with the float or help us build it, we’ll be having costume and float building workshops in the weeks leading up to the parade where you can make great new friends or reconnect with some old ones.

To register for the workshop, please visit our website (www.glrl.org.au) and follow the links.

Come and see us at Fair Day!  We would love to talk to you about what we’ve got planned for 2012, and hear about the issues affecting you.  We’re your lobbying body and we want to be reflective of our diverse community at Mardi Gras and all through the year.
