Lots on offer in the steamy north

Lots on offer in the steamy north

People could be forgiven for thinking nothing is happening in the Northern Rivers after the hugely successful Tropical Fruits Festival held over New Year, but nothing could be further from the truth. There is a plethora of events and activities in the coming month.

During February, ACON Northern Rivers is providing outreach to visitors at King’s Beach on Fridays and weekends, weather permitting. Contact Ian at ACON for details.

Following the successful art space held as part of the New Year’s festivities at Tropical Fruits, a selection of the works will be exhibited at the Serpentine Gallery. The exhibition is called It’s a Queer Life and runs till the end of January.

For women whose New Year’s resolutions were to get fit and meet new people, why not try a sport:

• Luxury Lezzie Line Dancing. This event boots off on Tues, Feb 2 at 5.30 pm at the Italo Club. Women-only event.
• Blues Sisters Softball Team hits off on Saturday, January 30 at Albert Park, Lismore. Women-only event.
• Northern Rivers Rolla Girls. Training held at Lismore Roller Rink every Thursday from 6pm. Roller derby. Women only.
If you missed the newest event on the regional calendar, Beats, Bowls and Bingo held at the Lismore Bowls Club in January, don’t despair. This family-friendly event is planned again for February and March. It has all the makings of a new favourite event for Lismore and surrounding areas. It kicks off at 2pm February 21 and March (TBC). Regardless of how you spend your time this month, look after yourself and your mates.
