Out’n’about in Western Sydney

Greater western Sydney is already accustomed to events surrounding the June long weekend — but this year will be like no other.
On Friday June 11 pinkFEST 2010 starts with the Bent Art Exhibition at Wentworth Falls School of Arts. This is the largest GLBT art exhibition in Australia. If you are a queer artist and want to be involved get in touch with them ASAP.
Each year I pray that the oil painting of me naked will be displayed. Perhaps this will be my lucky year. Western Sydney is aching to see my goods. I can feel it.
Now if that doesn’t entice you — don’t worry. There are 10 days worth of events.
Saturday June 12 is the Three Sisters’ Disco and Talent Quest at the Blackheath Community Hall. This year Bubbles will host it again. She’s a bargain! Her MC skills are complimentary and if you’re extra lucky she’ll bring along her prosthetic leg. She’s got so much more to offer than me — I only take extra lube.
The Glamour Ball will be held on Sunday night June 13 at the Carrington Hotel, Katoomba. The theme of the night will be ‘A night on Broadway’ so expect to see all the glamour of yesteryear and — let’s face it — many of the aged attendees like me lived it all the first time round! For more information, call 8230 0889.
Bush Lemons have arranged a bushwalk on June 13 that will be an 8km journey through the bush. You won’t see me on this. My stilettos would get stuck plus no one would want to hear me continuously whinge!
PinkFEST flicks will screen from June 18-20 with five sessions of campness. Presented by Queer Screen at the Edge Cinema, Katoomba this is a must-attend event!
If you want to get wet out there in a way that doesn’t involve bodily fluids, head along to the pool party on June 19 at the Katoomba Aquatic and Sports Centre, from 1pm to 4pm. This will be a great way to end the weekend before you head to Heaven Social Dance that night.
Heaven Charity Night will be held on Saturday June 19. It will be our biggest night ever! All funds from the door will be given to ACON West to distribute amongst GLBT events in western Sydney.
There will be three jam-packed shows at 10pm, 11pm and midnight with 15 drag queens including special guests from the city.
Drag gossip: Which tall western Sydney drag queen has spent the last few weeks travelling around the US maxing out her credit cards? Rumour has it she has also gone for liposuction and a breast augmentation! We’ll hardly recognise her when she returns — the dirty slag!
Until next time, gorgeous!
