Much To Do With Law / But More To Do With Love

Danish Sheikh is an activist lawyer, an academic, a theatre practitioner and an author, bringing his many skills to Much To Do With Law / But More To Do With Love, a lecture-performance about the legal oppression of the LGBTQIA+ community in India prior to the decriminalization of sodomy in 2018 after 158 years. Reflecting on legal artifacts from the late 90s and early 2000s that tell stories about how “queer persons in India found a way to live within the shadow of the sodomy law”, Sheikh asks us to “think about how queer dissent can unlock the imaginative possibilities within the law”, with dramaturgy by Vidya Rajan.
