Diving into Mardi Gras Youth Festival with Mitcham
Olympic gold medallist Matthew Mitcham and So You Think You Can Dance star Rhys Bobridge join forces on Saturday February 20, for 21 Down, the official launch to the Mardi Gras Youth Festival.
Bobridge will host a special under-21s event at Slide, featuring five hours of performances and DJ slots from top local acts.
Mitcham will give a keynote speech, about his own experiences as a young gay man, before giving young people the opportunity to speak with, and maybe even dance, with the olympic athlete.
The event is free, and a completely drug and alcohol free space for young GLBT people and their friends to celebrate the beginning of Mardi Gras.
Other events on the Youth Festival line-up include: West Reflects – Youth Participation in Mardi Gras, a visual display of photos and reports of Western Sydney youth groups involved with Mardi Gras; youth bush walks; and Late Nite Shopping, a night of performance poetry and roller skating being held in Carlton.

Support the Star Observer… while you still can
LGBTQIA+ media is under threat. Queer content is censored by tech conglomerates who amplify bigotry and push out AI slop — so we receive less financial support than ever.
When our community is muzzled and intolerance intensifies, we need queer media more than ever. Your donation means we can continue paying queer journalists to write queer news.
