Browne to remain JOY GM

Conrad Browne is set to stay on as general manager of Melbourne LGBTI radio station JOY94.9.

In a statement today, JOY president Breed Lewis said Browne, who has been acting in the role for several months, was formally appointed to the position on July 1.

“The board at JOY unanimously voted to offer Conrad the permanent role,” Lewis said.

“His performance over the last seven months has been outstanding.

“Conrad undertook the role as acting General Manager in a time of change and uncertainty, and has carried out the role like a true professional. It is with great confidence that we look to the future with Conrad at the
operational helm”.

LGBTQIA+ media is under threat. Queer content is censored by tech conglomerates who amplify bigotry and push out AI slop — so we receive less financial support than ever.

When our community is muzzled and intolerance intensifies, we need queer media more than ever. Your donation means we can continue paying queer journalists to write queer news.

Don’t rely on the straight lies of big tech – support Star Observer instead and donate now.

  1. I love JOY FM! I listen on my digital radio via the internet. Now a member and a donor!

  2. A great decision. Conrad is an outstanding professional with a great passion for Joy that really shines through in the way he carries out his role.
I for one enjoyed working alongside him while at the Star and congratulate the JOY board on this decision.
