Joyful radiothon

Australia’s only gay and lesbian radio station JOY94.9 kicks off its weeklong radiothon fundraiser this week.
Everyone who signs up and becomes a member will go in the draw to win this year’s major prize, a Jeep Wrangler Two-door Sport worth more than $35,000.

Radiothon coordinator Sammi Whitehead said JOY was the largest LGBTI community organisation in Australia and it cost around $20,000 a week to keep it on air.

“JOY gives a voice to our community and by doing that we can help people, with the various people involved in our station, express themselves,” Whitehead said.

“We provide a voice to organisations in our community and help people connect.”

The station provides more than 450 free community service announcements on behalf of organisations.

Radiothon 2012 runs June 1 – 8 and will be launched on June 1 at DnM bar.
