Man charged over ADF Facebook scandal

Police have charged a former member of the Australian Defence Force over a Facebook gay hate page.

It is alleged the ex-soldier sent threats via email relating to a senior officer’s sexuality and started a Facebook group naming the officer and other members of the Australian Defence Force in what is alleged as an “attempt to identify them as homosexual”.

The 32-year-old man was subsequently charged with a count of using a carriage service to threaten and using a carriage service to menace, harass and cause offence.

He was arrested this morning at Surry Hills Police Station and is expected to appear in court on June 3.
