Paris de Bono joins the Star team this week as our new astrologist.
Paris has had a keen interest in astrology, tarot and all things mystic since he was a teenager.
“It was a James Bond girl who set me on the road to being a fortune teller. When I was a young child I watched the movie Live and Let Die with my father on TV. When the beautiful Solitaire (played by English actress Jane Seymour) appeared on the screen, everything in me said ‘Wow!’ I was mesmerised, both by her beauty and her mysterious tarot cards. I was amazed at how she could foretell the future. There, watching that movie, at the age of 15, I knew what I wanted to do with my life.
“The very next day I saw a packet of tarot cards in a bookshop. I went in and bought them with my pocket money. Although I knew my strict Catholic parents wouldn’t approve, I was compelled to have them. However, I had no idea how to read them.
“Some time later I found myself at a market, looking on as a flame-haired mystic woman gazed at a man’s hand, read his cards and made predictions. I wondered if I would ever be able to foresee future events like she could. Would I ever be able to tell people about their lives and destiny?
“Eventually, in my later teens, I went to that very same mystic woman and asked her to do a reading for me. I was in awe — the way she held the cards, the way she laid them out on the table, the way she read them. It was like a whole new, yet strangely familiar world had opened up for me.
“I was thrilled when she predicted that I myself would become a talented psychic reader one day. And before long, she became my mentor, teaching me how to use the cards I had bought so many years before.
“I had entered a magical world — a world of symbols and a new way of looking at life. Other fine teachers followed. I studied astrology, palmistry and other forms of divination and soon I was reading cards, palms and astrology charts professionally.
“Finally, I was doing what I had dreamed of so long ago.
“In my early 20s, I travelled to Europe and there I appeared in my own television segment, radio show and newspaper column, dealing with esoteric subjects such as astrology, numerology, tarot and other forms of divination and fortune-telling.
“I returned to Australia to further my studies of the tarot and esoteric arts. In 2005 my shop, The Fortune Teller, was opened in Sydney. It was also in this year that these crystal cards came into being.”
