New reverse vending machines around the city are rewarding Sydneysiders for recycling empty plastic bottles and cans.

The two machines, at Circular Quay and Haymarket, let people exchange cans and plastic bottles for gifts like a two-for-one food truck vouchers or a charity donation. Only about 42 per cent of bottles and cans are recycled in NSW each year. 15,000 bottles and cans are littered or thrown into landfill every minute across Australia.

I hope the machines will help keep the streets and harbour clean and encourage people to do the right thing with their waste.
