There’s a reason why the GLBT community loves Jay Brannan and it’s not just because he’s a spunk. The internet celebrity and musician extraordinaire is best known for his soul-baring tunes that strike a chord in the hearts of his fans.

His self-released EP Unmastered saw 30,000 downloads on iTunes. The 1000-piece CD companion sold out in a flash with a one-of-a-kind Polaroid of Jay affixed to the cover of each copy.

If you’re able to make your work available to a large geographical area while still maintaining control of your music, your songs, your sound, your image, your identity-”why would you not take that opportunity over the glamourised and deluded idea of -˜getting signed’, Brannan said.

Jay Brannan is heading to Australian soil at the end of the month for a one-off show. He’ll be at the Oxford Art Factory on Thursday 30 October with support acts Gin Wigmore and Jackson McLaren.
