WHAT’S ON (Sydney): Circuit Boutique

SYDNEY is about to get a taste of Barcelona’s famous Circuit Festival — but in a more intimate, sophisticated setting — with the introduction of the Circuit Boutique T-dance party next weekend.

The event will held on May 16 and be headlined by DJs Dirty Nelly and Alex Taylor, who have been toying with the idea of holding Sydney’s own circuit music-style party for a few years.

“Over the space of two years I am amazed at how many Australians and Sydneysiders were heading to Europe and Tel Avi for the circuit parties being held,” said Dirty Nelly, whose real name is Neil Singleton.

“I’ve been toying with the idea of a circuit party since 2011 and now feels like the right time to offer something fresh, new and exciting.

“Alex and I believe there is a passion for the circuit sound here in Australia and we want to offer people a place where they can go and get just that, exactly what it says on the box.

“Our event is about the music, pure and simple.”

After a period of keeping the venue a secret, earlier this week both Singleton and Taylor revealed on Facebook that the party will be held at The Tattler.

Nestled in the Darlinghurst neighbourhood, the underground nightspot has hosted some exclusive parties and is known as a hideaway for those wanting to escape the glare of the city’s night scene.

And with countless other successful daytime/t-dance parties already in existence in Sydney such as Daywash and I Remember House, Circuit Boutique organisers believe they will offer something different.

“There are some amazing parties already happening so we are using a fresh, new, decadent venue,” Singleton said.

“We’ve limitied the number of DJs to just two and offering everyone the chance to come and dance to the circuit sound which we don’t believe has been provided as a party option and there is definitely a niche for.

“We won’t have Offer Nissim or Taito Tikaro here yet but we are doing the next best thing and bringing the music.”

Singleton said he first fell in love with the sound of circuit music when he attended Circuit Festival in 2011.

“For me, it just grabs me and won’t let go,” he said.

“I love dancing to it and I love spinning it but don’t get the chance often other than throwing in the odd track into my sets here and there. It’s hypnotic, euphoric and gives you goosebumps.

“We want everyone to come and experience it for themselves.”

Singleton also hinted at ambitions to tour the party on a national scale at some point in the future, rather than keep it to just Sydney.

“This is definitely something we would like to take to the other states, the circuit sound is loved by the country and this is demonstrated by the huge Australian presence at the international parties.”

Circuit Boutique will be held on Saturday, May 16 from 2pm to 8pm. For details and tickets, click here.
