Counsellors required for community service

Counsellors required for community service

ACON is seeking counselling graduates and professionals to volunteer for the after-hours counselling program.

Geared specifically towards gay and lesbian people and people living with HIV, the counselling service offers assistance to people who cannot access daytime services and operates between 6pm and 9pm on weekdays.

Applications to become a volunteer are open until Friday November 13. Eligible individuals must be registered with a relevant psychotherapy professional body and must have at least 50 hours of face-to-face counselling experience.

Successful applicants will be asked to attend a group interview on November 25, before attending a two-day induction and training course on December 4 and 5.

Volunteers will be provided with management supervision during their time with the service and will have two annual personal development weekends to extend their knowledge of the psychological issues facing the GLBTI and positive communities, and to contribute to accreditation points required by industry bodies.
