Dykes on Bikes lose a sister

Long time Dykes on Bikes member Rhonda Pearce was killed at the age of 51 on Thursday December 18 in an unfortunate traffic accident.

The Dykes on Bikes Christmas party last Saturday was a comparatively sombre affair as memories of Pearce were shared.

A club member for close to 15 years, Pearce was killed after walking out into traffic.

Ironically, it is clumsiness and an unflappable character which Pearce will be remembered for, said fellow Dykes on Bikes member Lyn Doherty.

If anything ever happened, if a glass broke, it was Rhonda. If there was a dent in the ground, she’d be the one to trip over it.

We were all a bit scared and nervous when she first got her licence for a scooter, and even when she rode up to Mardi Gras, we asked her how it was and she said she’d taken the wrong exit, Doherty recalled with fondness.

She was with us right from the days at the Leichhardt Hotel and in that entire time, I don’t think you ever saw Rhonda angry. She was always a ray of sunshine whenever she walked in -” bright, friendly. But the biggest thing that everyone will remember and relate to, was that she was the klutziest member.

The Dykes on Bikes will organise a memorial service for the near future.
