Kirby makes a meal of memoirs

To mark the release of The Honourable Michael Kirby’s memoirs A Private Life: Fragments, Memories, Friends this October, the Aurora Group today announced a lavish launch event to be held at Bilson’s Restaurant on Monday, November 7.

Both Kirby and his long-term partner Johan van Vloten will attend the dinner, with Kirby set to speak about some of the stores contained within his first self-penned memoir: his early life, coming out, his 42-year relationship with van Vloten, his religious beliefs and even his youthful infatuation with James Dean, which sent him on a sentimental journey to Dean’s home town in the year 2000.

Bilson’s Restaurant has been a long-term supporter of Aurora and the wider LGBT community. Tony Bilson and Chef de Cuisine Diego Muñoz will present their acclaimed new degustation menu, accompanied by wines selected by Aurora’s wine partner The Oak Barrel.

Bilson’s returned to the ‘3 hat’ club at last night’s SMH Good Food Awards and was awarded Favourite Vegetarian Menu, while Munoz was shortlisted to the final five for the Chef of the Year award.

Tickets to An Evening With Michael Kirby are $170, and are inclusive of the degustation menu (normally $145) and the evening’s wines. Guests will also receive a copy of A Private Life (RRP $35) to take home with them.

INFO: Bookings are now open, and seats are strictly limited. Email [email protected] or phone (02) 8323 4041 to reserve your place.
